How to Measure Bra Size

Every woman knows the importance of a well-fitting bra, but we don't all know the proper way to be fitted for one. From puberty on women will need the support of a good bra, so let's discuss how to measure bra size.

Your bra size is made up of a band measurement and a cup size. To find your band measurement, while wearing your own bra, wrap a measuring tape tightly around your rib cage, directly under your bust. If the number is odd add 5 inches to it, if it is even add 6 inches. The resulting number is your band size.

To find your cup size, measure around the fullest part of your breasts, holding your arms down at your sides and standing erect. Make sure the tape is straight. Subtract your band measurement from this second number. The difference of the two will determine your cup size.

Up to 1 inch difference is an "A" cup, up to 2 inches is a "B" cup, up to 3 inches is a "C" cup, up to 4 inches is a D cup.

The plus bra size can go up as far as a K and beyond. If you are having trouble finding the correct size, don't hesitate to have a professional fitter assist you. Getting professional assistance isn't always necessary, but can be helpful when trying to find a properly fitting bra of any size.

Remember that no part of the bra should cut into your skin. Make sure the cups fit smoothly with no puckering, and that your breasts are fully inside the cups with no overflow at the top or sides.

Now that you are armed with your correct size and fitting tips, you are ready to shop!
